Knights of Columbus Support Breast Cancer Awareness with Donation to Mothers Matter

A unanimous vote can say a great deal about a council’s priorities. At our October 1 business meeting, our Knights of Columbus council came together with one clear purpose: to support the fight against breast cancer and help strengthen care for mothers in need in our own community.

That decision led to a donation to MOTHERS MATTER, an all-volunteer nonprofit organization based in Washington Township. MOTHERS MATTER focuses on assisting mothers facing difficult circumstances, including those bravely battling breast cancer.

On Wednesday, October 28, at 8:00 a.m., members of our council gathered at the police station to present a check to the chief in support of this important local effort.

This donation is more than a financial contribution. It reflects a shared belief that awareness, compassion, and early detection can make a lasting difference for families.

A unanimous decision rooted in faith and service

The Knights of Columbus has long stood for charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism. Those principles are not abstract ideas. They become real through the choices councils make, especially when they respond to needs close to home.

During our October 1 business meeting, the council discussed the opportunity to support breast cancer awareness and local mothers who are carrying heavy burdens. The decision was unanimous. Every member present recognized that this cause speaks directly to who we are called to be.

Breast cancer affects more than the person diagnosed. It impacts spouses, children, parents, siblings, friends, caregivers, coworkers, and entire parish and town communities. A diagnosis can bring fear, medical uncertainty, financial strain, and emotional exhaustion. For mothers, those challenges often come while they are still caring for children, managing a household, and trying to keep daily life as steady as possible.

Why Mothers Matter was the right partner

Program Overview

• Mission: Provides hand-crafted gift bags filled with personal care, health, beauty, and toiletry items to women facing difficult challenges, illnesses, tragedies, or critical life issues (such as moms in need, cancer patients, and crisis program recipients).

• Operations: Headquartered at 3 McClure Drive, Sewell, NJ since February 2011.

• Impact: Distributes over 4,200 gift bags yearly (split between Mother’s Day and year-round distributions) and processes 60,000 to 75,000 products annually using 90% donated items.

The donation also keeps the impact local. Washington Township families are not just names on a list. They are people we may see at church, school events, grocery stores, community gatherings, and around town. Supporting MOTHERS MATTER means standing with women and families who are part of the same community we call home.
